Fantastic functionality that saves time, money, and space!

There have always been many like me who seem to collect cookbooks until we don’t know where to put them all. This one powerful yet simple app will likely change all that. Instead of having shelves of books for just one or two recipes each, you can enter your recipe into this app, then donate the cookbook to your local library; sell it to a used book store; or gift it to Aunt Jane the foodie. You can quickly look up and save similar recipes online to tweak your favorites. One of my favorite recipe modifications is adding to the notes section many optional recipe variations that I have enjoyed or read about, often from folks who have provided useful online comments after a recipe that they have tried. You can save recipes, modify them, rate them, and categorize them so they are easy to find later. It is easy to send a recipe to a friend via regular email, or to even send your entire recipe library to a friend who also has the app. In addition to the websites listed by this app, it flawlessly downloads recipes from many other sites unlisted by the app. It even downloads recipes from pay sites without having to pay for a subscription to the site (The New York Times is a very notable example). This app is the best possible way to save and organize recipes, be they family recipes, those from cookbooks, and it’s especially easy for those you can find online. The learning curve to use all these features is pretty easy, and very valuable. While I don’t use all the features, I use enough that there is no other app I could substitute for it and have the same functionality. This is definitely the best app in it’s category, and I would easily put it in my top 10 of all-time favorite apps regardless of category. Five bucks for this is a total steal. Take it from a retiring cookbook collector who has plunked down far more money for far less benefit: Paprika 3 is worth many times the asking price! No more cookbooks for me!

Huge upgrade from My Recipe Book

I’ve used the My Recipe Book for many years, and was so disappointed that they quit supporting it. I have almost 1,000 recipes, and I was worried that soon the latest version of iOS would no longer support it and I would lose all of my recipes. Went on a quest to find the best recipe app out there, and the consensus seemed to be that this was it. Then I was faced with the daunting task of recreating all of my recipes from my old app. Did a bunch of research and finally figured out that I could export the database from My Recipe Book and import it into Paprika. The basic instructions are included in the Paprika user guide. My Recipe Book isn’t supported for a computer, so all of my recipes were on my iPad. I had to connect my iPad to my Mac to get the database file, but it imported amazingly well. The only downside is that it didn’t import the photos of the food or the serving sizes, but I consider going back and adding all the photos a very small price to pay since I thought I was going to have to recreate every recipe. Such a lifesaver! I love this app!!

Love it and now I want more

I have never been a planner, or able to create a meal plan, shop and then prepare the meals I have shopped for. With the help of this app, I am finally seeing success. 4weeks straight of planning and executing the plan. Woohoo! I love it! But, to be honest, now I want more. Can they add a budget feature? I could add a price per meal or to ingredients within a recipe. Then when creating a meal plan for the week we could budget by mixing up the pricey and less pricey recipes. Even without that feature I tell everyone how awesome this app is. But if they had the budget feature, I think I’d shout it from the rooftops, lol!
